How to use Reels to improve brand awareness

The social media strategy for Fleming Yachts Australia incorporates Instagram Reels as a driver to increase awareness and attract followers to achieve growth KPIs.

Within three months, Fleming Yachts Australia reached more than 1 million views on Instagram Reels and gained more than 1,647,064 combined views on all reels.

The popularity of Reels has definitely seen a huge uplift this year and there are 250 million active users making reels on Instagram every day. In line with this upward trend, The Social Dingo strategically incorporated more Reels into our client’s social media portfolio which increased their views by hundreds of thousands and grew their following by more than 10k!! 🎉

We know social media is ever-changing and can sometimes be a bit confusing, so we’re here to offer some helpful tips on how you can incorporate Reels into your own social media strategy and get the results you’re looking for.

Create suspense in your video

Create a sense of anticipation using header text similar to “wait for it ” or ” wait till the end ” or creating a sense of wanting to wait and see what happens at the end by creating imagery that supports the sense of anticipation and builds excitement.

With a Reel like this, your audience will feel like something is going to happen in the end and they end up watching the full length of the video, giving you ‘watch time’ and increasing reach.

Engaging Call To Action (CTA)

What do you want your audience to do with your Reels?

Like, comment, share, save?

Create a unique way for your audience to undertake these options and ask them to take an action.

Use trending songs/music

Take a look at what music is trending on Reels right now.

When a number of people react to sounds, the Instagram algorithm notices and adds more of the same videos in their feed.

Don’t know what’s trending? At the bottom of any Reel, click on the music to see how many other creators have used the audio.

The use of trending music has seen significant growth in followers and engagement for our clients.

Find trending music that’s also appropriate for your video and your brand.

Short can deliver big results

Trends in Reels are changing all the time.  In mid-2022, the platform favours short Reels – just seven seconds of eye-catching images or one video shot with trending music can garner a lot of attention.

Watch what’s being posted and getting engagement and experiment to see what gets a response for your brand/business/product.

Hashtags

Using hashtags the right way is always important. Hashtags that are too popular are too competitive and are unlikely to get the results you’re after as there’s just too many others bidding for the same hashtag.
Hashtags with little or no followings are also unlikely to reap the rewards you’re after, so be strategic!

We recommend using only 5 – 10 hashtags, so make them count!

Don’t watch your Reel from your ID

The most common mistake people make once they’ve posted a Reel is watching it, checking to see how many likes they get, how many comments it’s getting or listening to the music.

This makes the Instagram algorithm think that you are increasing views by looking at your Reels and it will penalise you.

You have to avoid this. Leave it for 2-3 hours, and make sure you don’t watch it again and again. Another mistake people make is, once they’ve posted the reel and don’t get the amount of views they want instantly, they end up deleting the reel because they’re disappointed.

Reels can sometimes take time to reach their full potential, therefore leaving them alone can sometimes be your best strategy

Make sure to post at the correct time

Post your Reels at a time when everyone is active. Look at the insights in your account portfolio and ask yourself, “when is your audience most active?”.

Note what time your followers or target audience are active as this will give you a good indication of the best time to post a Reel.
